International Biodiversity Day

Brisbane City Council, in a joint venture with the Australian Innovation Festival, is sponsoring the CitySmart Innovation Festival 08, which will focus on sustainability through innovation. It will run from 12 to 31 May 2008. International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) falls within the festival period.

The theme of IBD in 2008 is 'Biodiversity and Agriculture'. Agriculture is a key example of how human activities have profound impacts on the ecosystems and biodiversity of our planet.

At the same time IBD seeks to highlight the importance of maintaining the world's biological diversity, upon which agriculture and future production is dependant.

Green Cross Australia, in partnership with Brisbane City Council, is hosting a dialogue involving The Nature Conservancy and Queensland Farmers Federation.

We will celebrate the 'people factor' in biodiversity conservation with a discussion that takes us from TNC's pioneering Coral Triangle marine conservation work to QFF's view on the role of biodiversity in farming.

Our venue at the Brisbane Powerhouse is stylish but small, so please book ahead if you want to join us for drinks, nibblies and forward thinking.

Speakers:

Mara Bun, CEO, Green Cross Australia

Peter Thomas, Director of Pacific Island Countries program, The Nature Conservancy

John Cherry, CEO, Queensland Farmers Federation

If you would like to be one of Green Cross Australia's limited number of guests at this event, please email your name, email address, contact phone number to richard.sara@brisbane.qld.gov.au with "IBD" in the subject line.
