World Green Building Week

World Green Building Council and its member Green Building Councils celebrated the inaugural World Green Building Day on September 23, 2009 to raise the profile of green buildings globally in the lead up to COP15 in Copenhagen. The day was shaped by a series of synchronized events hosted by GBCs around the world, with events varying from organized green buildings tours to Town Hall meetings with government representatives.  The launch of the Asia-Pacific Regional Network was also celebrated on this day last year.

Drawing on the success of last year's celebration, World Green Building Council has decided to extend 'World Green Building Day' to 'World Green Building Week' over the third week of September 2010, which will allow greater flexibility for GBCs to host events. The theme for this year's celebration is "Tackling Climate Change - Meeting Local Priorities."

World Green Building Council is currently developing a Special Report that will be released in time for World Green Building Week.  The report will make the link between green building and other economic realities that governments around the world are currently facing, such as the need for affordable housing, job creation, and adapting to local impacts of climate change. The report will include case studies from 15 countries that demonstrate geographic, political, and economic diversity.

More information will be posted on the World Green Building Council website.

On Wednesday 22 September in Sydney, the Green Building Council of Australia will be holding a Green Tie Gala Dinner event with invited government representatives to raise the profile of green building.
