Amazonia Eterna - Brazil Film Festival Panel Discussion

Green Cross Australia proudly supports the 2013 Brazil Film Festival. In its 4th edition, the festival brings 10 of the best and most awarded Brazilian film productions to Australia, screening in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Amazonia Eterna

The highlight of the festival is the screening of the award-winning documentary Amazonia Eterna. At a time when the world is discussing the impact of human actions on the environment, Amazonia Eterna presents a critical analysis of how the world's largest tropical rainforest is understood and appreciated at the social, political and economic levels. Covering around five million square kilometres, the Amazon rainforest is home to countless plant and animal species, with its rivers holding some 20% of the world's freshwater reserves. Its biodiversity is a source of natural wealth, assuring the quality of life for future generations. The Amazon is also a critically important buffer against global warming, as its dense forests soak up more than one-quarter of the world's atmospheric carbon. But is it possible to make sustainable use of the rainforest? Amazonia Eterna investigates and explores successful initiatives that make sustainable use of the rainforest.

Panel discussion

To raise awareness of the issues faced by the Amazon - our planet's lungs - and to celebrate the forest and its indigenous culture, Green Cross Australia and the Brazil Film Festival invite you to a screening of the movie, followed by an inspiring panel discussion. Brazilian-born Mara Bun (CEO, Green Cross Australia) and expert guests will explore some of the topics presented in this documentary and compare them to the Australian context. Topics discussed will include land rights, indigenous rights, deforestation, sustainable development and climate change. See below for dates and locations:
