"Sunrise reveals the devastation of Cyclone Ivan, the first Category Four event to hit landfall in Queensland's southeast corridor. A five metre wave surged from Moreton Bay into the Broadwater, sweeping through kilometres of canal developments. The Hinze dam cracked at 2:13am this morning forcing evacuation of thousands of residents to higher ground without power in 130 km/hr winds. The Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change (IPCC) says parts of coastal Australia are highly exposed to potential climate change impacts, from sea level rise to increased frequency and velocity of extreme weather events

(Christensen et al 2007).

This confronting hypothetical involves leaders from the property development, insurance, local government, finance, infrastructure, energy, construction and community sectors.

The group will navigate thecomplexity inherent in making decisions based on uncertain climate change impact scenarios including gradual sea level rise and severe weather impacts.

Interdisciplinary considerations such as building regulations, planning for climate risk, built environment and major infrastructure exposure, insurance and government liability, and community awareness will be addressed.
